I am mentally ill

  1. I am 63 tomorrow & I was brought right back by your piece. We will always be what we are, but it gets easier with age as you learn how to manage it. Stick with the people who comfort you, your parents sound amazing. When the acid drops start falling from your brain into your mind, tell yourself ‘these are only thoughts and I can think about something else’, sounds easy, takes practice. Finally, exercise, good food and personal grooming are vital. On the shittiest day, if you can step out the door knowing the shell is OK, it helps. I’m glad I stuck around, I’d have missed an awful lot. Best of luck, you are one of the good guys!

  2. As i sit here attempting to write something to you the tears roll down my cheeks and splash upon the keyboard; a complex mix of resonance, profundity, understanding and awe.

    I can’t write what i need to say to you here Ev as it’s all very personal to us both and i don’t want to overstep any boundaries, i have used an email address you can get me @ 24/7 and i also have a voip server if you want to speak sometime.

    What i will say however is i love hearing about what you’re getting up to during the updates i still get from your mum, you’re a good lad with a SOUND head on you, its the world that’s bonkers, and it’s your generation and especially people like you whom feel things deeply that will affect a positive change.

    This isn’t your mam meddling, she doesn’t know I’m writing this and hasn’t asked anything of me nor have we even spoke about this, i was just posted a link and asked to read, this is your big brother looking out for you, i love you all far more than you know and will ALWAYS be there for any of you.

    As far as my opinion on ‘mental illness’ i will offer this;

    “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”

    Jiddu Krishnamurti

    This doesn’t mean it’s all doom and gloom, far from it, you are the author of your own destiny, the blank pages are for you to fill however you choose, equip yourself now with the right tools for the future and create a glorious masterpiece with as much colour as possible, dare to dream, make mistakes, create, be wrong, be right, live, love, laugh, cry.

    Much <3, Phil.
